The principals of 4Discovery and eDiscovery Labs have announced the strategic merger of their organizations into one brand: 4Discovery.

For over a decade, Jeffrey Hartman and Chad Gough grew Impact Forensics into one of the most formidable, privately-held computer forensics firms in Chicago. After selling that firm a few years ago, Hartman took a sabbatical, and then provided litigation-consulting under eDiscovery Labs.  Gough teamed up with Tony Balzanto, a well-known computer forensics professional and a detective with the Tinley Park Police Department, where he leads the department’s digital crimes unit.

Now, Hartman, Gough, and Balzanto have teamed up under 4Discovery to continue to provide their computer forensics and electronic discovery leadership to their broad client base in Chicago.

“I firmly believe this new partnership brings the finest electronic discovery talent in Chicago under one brand”, said Hartman. “Tony, Chad, and I have served the litigation community in Chicago for over ten years, and formalizing our relationship now allows us to bring even more resources to the table for our clients. We have an enormous amount of experience and know-how, and now we are offering this to the market under one roof.”

The three electronic discovery entrepreneurs are also attracting new talent to their team. Last year, they recruited Dan Pullega, a newly certified EnCE computer forensics examiner and in January they snagged Josh Fazio, a seasoned computer forensics professional who until recently headed-up the Will County Sheriff’s Department’s Digital Crimes Unit. Fazio has an impressive record of solving complex electronic crimes at the Sheriff’s Department, with a focus on cases involving mobile devices and smart phones.

“Our ability to recruit Josh also presented a timely opportunity to invest in new mobile device forensics technology, as targeting these devices during discovery is becoming increasingly important for litigators”, according to Gough. To that end, 4Discovery has recently made a significant investment in hardware and software that enables the recovery of Electronically Stored Information (ESI) from smart phones. The partners and staff of 4Discovery have recently relocated to their new computer forensics lab at 215 N. Green Street in Chicago.

Tony Balzanto added, “Our new partnership, and the addition of Dan and Josh, has really positioned us to be the consulting shop of choice for computer forensics in Chicago. Our capabilities and our bench strength really put us in an elite category.”
